After more than twenty years in the wastewater industry, Wastewater Alternatives Inc. (WAI) is closing its doors and its founder, Harold Davis, is retiring. Advanced Onsite Solutions (AOS) is now the sole distributor for the design, installation, and maintenance of The Clean Solution system, which has been WAI’s hallmark. WAI and AOS will work closely together to assure a smooth transition. Gary Spaulding of AOS was WAI’s President for the past three years and its lead designer for more than eight years. His knowledge of the system is unsurpassed.

Gary specializes in high strength wastewater projects and the permitting of waterfront properties in New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont. In addition, he researches, develops, and tests innovative wastewater treatment systems for residential and commercial applications.

In addition to wastewater treatment, Gary has worked on projects that include rainwater recovery and reuse, rain gardens, bio-retention areas, and permeable pavers to minimize storm water runoff and impact.

In 2003 and 2004, Gary was lead designer and project manager responsible for the permitting and approval of the nation’s first manufactured home community consisting entirely of Energy Star® rated HUD code homes in Barrington NH. Gary was retained by the developer to oversee construction of roads, infrastructure and site improvements.

Prior to that, Gary was a workgroup manager for a major NH-based engineering firm, where he oversaw a department of 25 engineers and surveyors. He worked with planning boards and zoning boards from initial planning and presentations through the final permitting and approval of projects in NH, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Illinois.

Gary has been appointed by the NHDES Commissioner to serve on the NH Shoreland Advisory Committee through 2013. The Committee’s primary focus is to address residential waterfront owner input and - based on that input – to make suggestions to the Commissioner for improving the permitting process while protecting NH water bodies and groundwater.

Mr. Spaulding is a permitted NH Designer, NH Installer, NH Certified Septic System Evaluator, and NH Licensed Wetland Scientist. He serves on the Board of Directors of Granite State Designers and Installers (GSDI) and is an instructor for the NH GSDI Certified Septic System Evaluator Program, and he is a past Board member of the Yankee Onsite Wastewater Association.
